Descripción
Long term simulations results of the dynamics of the Gulf of Mexico using the 2.5 inhomogeneous layered model. The model does not include topography and the domain is restricted to the deep ocean region, with the horizontal domain approximately delimited by the 200 m depth contour. The model has three layers: an active upper layer representing the mixed layer through the coupling of a Niiler-Kraus mixed layer model, an active intermediate layer, and an infinite depth motionless deep layer. A base configuration of the model was implemented, in which the upper layer thickness H1 and Yucatan Current transport Y are denoted with the subscript ‘ref.’ From the base configuration (H1(ref)=76 m and Y(ref)=22.1 Sv), the upper layer thickness and Yucatan Current transport were varied. The numerical experiments include the combination of seven values of the upper layer thickness with seven values of the Yucatan Current transport for 49 case studies. For each case study, the corresponding temperature and density of the layers were kept constant, the transport in the upper and intermediate layers was scaled accordingly, and other parameters of the model were not changed. The seven values of the upper layer thickness correspond to H1/H1(ref) = 0.85, 0.88, 0.91, 0.96, 1.00, 1.06, 1.13. The seven values of the Yucatan Current transport correspond to Y/Y(ref) = 0.80, 0.85, 0.90, 0.95, 1.00, 1.05, 1.10. The attributes for each variable are the following: 160 latitude grid points, 230 longitude grid points, initial west longitude=99.25, initial north latitude=17.5, longitudinal grid-size=1/12°, latitudinal grid-size=1/12°, temporal dimension length=1095, time-step=10 days, non physical values=9999 or -9999. The outputs for the first ten years (the first 365 temporal data) are taken as a spin-up, and the remaining 20 years (the last 730 temporal data) are used for the analysis.
